Connected outlines how the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector can realise its massive potential to deliver a more sustainable future.

The report, sponsored by Sun Microsystems, confirms that the ICT industry has a compelling role to play in delivering a low carbon, sustainable future. To do this, the authors say the ICT sector must move from a model based on ever increasing consumption of natural resources to a service-led future that is more efficient and less reliant on hard-wired solutions.

As the report indicates, by looking at the bigger picture, the opportunities for ‘greening’ the ICT sector actually lie, not in the production and use of ICT, but in its application.

The report identifies four key areas where ICT has the potential to deliver real improvements to people and the planet: work, travel, shopping and meeting.
