Fees & eligibility

Eligibility

Applicants should have, or expect to gain, a first or upper second class degree.

Applications are welcome from any subject discipline as long as you have the potential to take up a leadership position in the future, can demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development (e.g. through your studies, voluntary work, personal interest or student activity) and want to work for positive solutions.

Overseas Students: We are only able to accept students who already hold a right of residence in the UK for the duration of the course. We have looked into the matter carefully and regret any disappointment this may cause.

Fees

The fees for the 2012-13 course will be £8,500 for UK/EU students. The overseas student fee will be £11,500 (see note about international students below).

The programme is densely packed with tuition and placements and does not allow participants to hold part-time jobs whilst undertaking the masters.

Note for international students

UK legislation requires publicly funded education institutions to charge ‘overseas’ student fees to international students unless they fulfil certain residence and immigration status requirements. If you meet the residence and immigration status requirements you will be charged a lower ‘home’ student rate of fee. You must also be charged the ‘home’ rate if you meet certain requirements that apply to groups such as European Union (EU) nationals or refugees.

Details of these requirements are given by the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) in its information sheet on tuition fees which outlines the complex legislation covering tuition fee status.

Funding

Sources of possible funding include:

  • Postgraduate Study Bursaries offered by Postgrad Solutions UK.  Each bursary is worth £500 and they are open to students from anywhere in the world.
  • As our course is accredited by Middlesex University, you may also be able to identify postgraduate funding opportunities through the university's range of scholarships, grants and bursaries.
  • Professional and Career Development Loans (PCDLs) are bank loans that can be used to help pay for work-related learning. You can borrow between £300 and £10,000 to help support the cost of up to two years of learning (or three years if it includes one year’s relevant unpaid practical work). The Young People’s Learning Agency will pay the interest on the loan while you are learning and for one month afterwards. The loan can be used to pay course fees or other costs such as travel and living expenses.  As the Professional and Career Development Loan is a commercial loan product, you should make sure you have investigated all the funding options that may be open to you to ensure you take an informed decision about whether the Loan is right for you.
For further information on financial assistance to support your learning, visit www.direct.gov.uk/adultlearning or contact Next Step on 0800 100 900.  Our learning provider registration number is: 20124.
  • We have a small Scholarship Fund which is a restricted source of money available to assist successful applicants of the Forum Masters Programme who need extra financial help to meet particular costs, which would otherwise prevent them from accepting a place on the course. It will only be given to students who have the greatest need, and will only cover the shortfall between what they get from a PCDL and other sources, and what they need to live on for the duration of the course. We cannot offer Scholarship funding to everyone that applies.
